Their little project would lead to the creation of a Coal Scuttle in 1915 – the very first Aston Martin. 100 years later, a new model to mark 100 years of success is about to be announced.

CEO of Aston Martin, Ulrich Bez comments that the latest model will be completely new. He adds that Aston Martin would need to do something “remarkable” to celebrate their hundredth year. Bez assures that it would not just be a mere DB9 with a fancy centenary edition badge and it also wouldn’t be produced on a limited run like the One-77 Supercar. The 208 rally version will be fitted with a naturally aspirated 1.6-liter VTI engine developed by Peugeot Sport outputting 185bhp. Instead of aiming for peak power, the development team focused on flexibility.

With the help from the friendly and capable people from the French engine tuning company, Sodemo, the engine on the R2 is equipped with variable valve timing mechanisms which explain the impressive power output. Channeling the power to the wheels is through a five-speed sequential transmission as opposed anything more substantial but it should be good for lower gear ratios.

The steering on the 208 uses a hydraulic system rather than a electric power steering system to give a more precise feedback especially on loose surfaces which will help the car maneuver when traction becomes difficult.

The 208 has also undergone a diet program, losing about 40kg in weight. This weight reduction helps not only with fuel consumption and emissions but also lowers the center of gravity of the car. Together with the long wheelbase, the handling is also improved. A strengthened body and multi-point welded rollcage improves the safety of the car.

The 208 R2 will make its debut at the French Tour de Corse which is the fourth round of the 2012 intercontinental Rallye Challenge happening from the 10^th to 12^th May. Another two versions of the competition 208 will not be revealed until later in 2012.

There will be two kits offered to transform the asphalt version of the car to a gravel version and vice versa. The new 550bhp Aston Martin DBS has started to go through final testing at the world famous Nurburgring in Germany ahead of its scheduled launch later this year.

The new DBS is quite a huge change from its £185k two-seater  5-year-old brother. The DBS will receive a rather aggressive take on styling, an interior with better quality and the engine will also output more power to eclipse the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta.

The test car is seen dressed in thin panels of plastic however the tight fit of the panels hints that the DBS will carry a sharper look most likely inspired by the One-77 supercar. Other styling revisions include a much broader rear haunch leading to a sharper crease over the rear wheel arches.

To make a distinction between the limited edition One-77 and the £150k Virage, the smooth curves and features on the DB9 have been ditched for a more bold look on the new DBS. This would give the DBS an identity too – no one wants to buy a car which looks the same as the other models.

Dieter Zetsche, the boss of Mercedes, states that the SLC, which is also dubbed the baby SLS, will another front-engined sports car to add to Mercedes lineup of mid sized cars. Mercedes-Benz also also confirmed its move of launching another 10 new and 22 heavily upgraded cars into five different market segments before 2016 in a move to rival Audi and BMW.

Mercedes will keep the C, E and S class in their lineup of cars and also build on their portfolio of luxury cars to replacement the Maybach models which would be phased out within the next couple of years.

The mid-sized Mercedes line up will also include the fourth-generation C-class models due for launching in 2014 as well as future models of the C-class estates and coupes. A C-class cabriolet is also set for lauching in 2015 as well as a facelifted version of the current SLK in 2014.

If you are thinking Audi will launch a new Q5 anytime soon, hold your horses. Rather than coming up with a new revamped model and risk it all, Audi decides to update the Q5. This little ‘update’ consists of a slight tweak in styling, an upgraded interior as well as a new selection of petrol and diesel engines with this usually being enough to get the consumers into the dealership to place an order for the latest model!
Scheduled to go on sale come October 2012 after its launch at a Paris motor show, the new Q5 comes with revised bumpers, headlamp graphics, grille and exhaust tips.
With stop-start as standard, the new Q5 will be offered with a choice of five new diesel and petrol engines. These engines include an upgraded 3.0 liter TDI V6 engine producing an extra 5bhp as well at 59lbft of torque over the standard one with its new power rating sitting at 242bhp and 428lbft.
Another engine on offer is a 3.0 liter V6 engine replacing the old naturally aspirated 3.2-liter V6 engine. The new 3.0-liter V6 makes an additional 2bhp at 268bhp and will be fitted to the 3.0 TFSI model. This model wouldn’t be slow either, with only 5.9 seconds to hit 0-60.
Jumping on the hybrid bandwagon, there will also be a Q5 Hybrid powered by the older 2.0-liter 208bhp four cylinder petrol engine coupled with an electric motor. Combined, the hybrid system outputs 242bhp with a rather torquey 354lbft.
Audi also plans to unveil a new Audi SQ5 model powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6  TDI engine outputting 309bhp and 479lbft of torque. The SQ5 is expected to hit 0-60 in 5.8 seconds with a limited 155mph top speed.
Rumours also say that US and China will receive a petrol SQ5 powered by a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 petrol engine with 328bhp and 324lbft.
The Q5 will be fitted with new springs and dampers to improve comfort levels. The steering is also revamped with the hydraulic setup cast aside to make way for an electro-mechanical system.
Inside the car, you will still find a new dashboard and center console. However, the new trim will achieve a higher quality feel. Perhaps this is what Audi meant by “upgrading”?

Rolls-Royce revealed their new concept at the Beijing Motor Show. The name of the concept? Well it has been named the Rolls-Royce Ghost Six Senses. According to the luxury car maker, the Six Senses brings another element of sense to the table – and it’s the sense of “surprise and delight”. The Six Senses brings together the “richness of experience” – which is a feeling that comes standard with any every Rolls-Royce vehicle – and then taking this sensation to another level of “sensory indulgence”.

Described as an environment of luxury made especially for people with high delectable tastes, the Rolls-Royce is not all delicate either. Powered by a humongous V12 6.8-liter petrol engine coupled with an eight-speed automatic transmission, the Ghost Six Senses is sure to satisfy.

The Six Sense edition is adorned with pearlescent Carrara White paint and is moved by new forged alloy wheels. Open the reverse-opening coach doors and your eyes will be treated to the Walnut Burr veneers with diagonal brown oak cross-banding complementing it.

Following the tradition of Lamborghini and its nomenclature, the new 4×4 by the Italian sports car maker will be named after a bull, Urus – the ancestor of a domestic cattle.

Says the big boss Stephan Winkelmann, the Urus concept will finally see the light as a production model come 2016. Lamborghini hopes to reach its goal of tripling their sales with the launch of the Urus.

With an annual sales target of 3000 luxury 4x4s, Lamborghini also hopes to sell about 1500 to 2000 Aventadors and Gallardos. To ensure sales stability and profitability, Lamborghini would need a third model line that would sell well and according to Winkelmann, Lamborghini has looked into many sectors and it is obvious that a 4×4 would offer the best chance for success.

Winkelmann comments that the extreme supersports segment is very volatile and sensitive the new product launches as well as economic declines. As such, Lamborghini would need a winder base of customers to ensure profitability in the long run.

The four-seater Urus is set to compete with the BMW X6 M and Range Rover and would be likely to carry a £150,000 price tag when it enters production. Winkelmann also states that most of the existing Lamborghini owners also have a SUV in possession therefore the Urus would be the perfect car to add to Lamborghini’s supercar lineup.

Codenamed LB736, the Urus would be likely to carry its exterior appearance to the production model besides oversized 24” wheels but it would added with more creature comforts together with a conventional interior. It is said to utilize the same four wheel drive layout as the Audi Q7, Bentley Falcon, Volkswagen Touareg and the Porsche Cayenne.

The Urus would also have its structural elements constructed with carbon fiber coupled with a chassis built extensively with aluminum to bring its weight down so the car would be significantly lighter than the competition.

The Urus concept on display at the Beijing Motor Show in China measures in a 4990mm long, 1990mm wide and 1660mm tall. To put this in perspective, the Urus is longer than the BMW X6 M by 114mm, wider by 7mm and lower by 24mm.

While Lamborghini did not want to reveal the engine details, they did not hesitate to say that the Urus would make about 600bhp.

Lamborghini is also setting their sights for the Urus to have the lowest CO2 emissions in its class. Automatic stop-start , electro-mechanical steering and brake energy recuperation are also among the new technologies planned for the new 4×4 to save fuel and reduce emissions.

China’s largest sport utility vehicle manufacturer, Great Wall Motors, has launched a compact pickup truck in the UK marking the first Chinese automotive brand to penetrate into the British market.

Originally named Great Wall Wingle, this budget pickup truck is rebranded as the Steed for the UK market and it is also coincidentally the cheapest pickup truck you could get in the market.

Sold in the UK by International Motors led by Paul Hegarty, the main selling point of the Steed is its affordability.

With forty dealers all across the UK, the Steed is offered in two variants – the Steed S (£14,000) and the Steed SE (£16,000)

Before the Steed came about, the cheapest pickup truck in the market was the Isuzu Rodeo with a price of just a little over £15,000 for the entry level model.

The Steed’s competitors include the VW Amarok, Mitsubishi L200, Ford Ranger, Nissan Navara and the Toyota Hilux. These cars probably cannot compete with the Steed if the Steed is able to deliver quality for its cheap price. The most expensive of the bunch is the Amarok, costing about £22,500 for the entry level model.

Hegarty says that the key for a new brand to succeed in the European market is the pricing which needs to be very competitive compared to the established brands. The Steed’s specifications offers a lot of value for money

For a basic pickup truck, the Steed comes with Bluetooth capabilities, full leather interior and heated seats.

Great Wall Motors is the largest automotive exporter in volume and revenue since 1998. Founded in Boading in the province of Hebei in 1976, Great Wall has a sales network of over 100 countries with 85,000 vehicles sold internationally last year – an increase of 50% from 2010.

The Audi Q3 RS marks the beginning of a new chapter in Audi’s books of high performance SUVs. The Q3 RS will be finally revealed at the Beijing Motor Show happening next week.

The Q3 RS concept is a pretty big departure from the boring traditional hatchbacks, saloons and estates you’d usually see in the RS lineup. You could probably see why Audi wanted to go ahead with this project. AMG of Mercedes has been producing high performance SUVs with a lot of go for a very long time. Then you have the BMW X5 M and X6 M that are very successful commercially as well. What about Porsche Cayenne Turbo?

The Q3 RS is powered by a highly tuned version of the five cylinder 2.5-liter engine found in the RS3 and TT-RS. The turbocharged TFSI unit sees the power increased from 335bhp to 355bhp though an increase in torque of 332 lb ft produced by the standard engine is still not confirmed.

With extra power comes extra speed thus the Q3 RS has no problems propelling 0-62 in just mere 5.2 seconds with a 164mph top speed. The drivetrain is a four wheel drive unit with powered transferred to by a seven speed S-tronic transmission with dual clutch.

The Q3 RS also receives a styling makeover as well as improvements to the chassis. The Q3 RS is 25mm lower  and is also fitted with sports suspension.

Aesthetically, the Q3 RS looks more ferocious thanks to the RS styling kit. The front-end features a black honeycomb grille that gives off a 3D-effect, stylish tinted headlights, front bumper redesigned with sculpted air intakes and a spoiler made with lightweight carbon fiber reinforced plastic.

The Q3 RS is made to look wider thanks to flared side skirts and wheel arches. The rear spoiler makes the car look a tad sportier. The rear bumper comes with air diffusers and the rear end is finished off with a rather huge exhaust tips. The car is painted in Ordos Blue.

The blue color of the car makes its way into the car starting with the black nappa-leather seats with blue Alcantara stitching. The color blue is also used on the stitching on the dashboard as well as the trim panels making this a bespoke offering from the German powerhouse.
